"Galveston's Happy Hauntings"
Happy Hauntings! Thursday, August 18, 1:30 to 3:30 PM, Instructor, Jan Johnson. Galveston, that grand old city that wouldn’t die, is home to many restless little souls, content to stay here eternally. Friendly and benevolent, these spirits remain on earth somewhere between life and death to protect someone or someplace. During active hauntings, they continue to go about their daily "lives," interacting with the living in their relentless search for a way to "cross-over" to their next level of existence. This class explores the stories of those chosen few on the Island who have experienced an active haunting.

Discover Historic Galveston, Neighborhood by Neighborhood
Thursday, 1:30 - 3:30 pm, September 8 - October 27
Instructor: Jan Johnson, author of Walking Historic Galveston. In the state of Texas, Galveston remains an enigma. East of 53rd Street, this vulnerable barrier island reflects 160 years of extant architecture, filled with the inside human stories of those they survived, a mythical mystery to study and understand. Based on her book, this course centers on the city's rich history from its roots in legend and lore to its "wide open" gambling era, neighborhood by neighborhood. This semester will include more Galveston ghost stories at the request of those who were in Jan’s previous class. Copies of the text will be loaned to learners during the course, which will culminate in an optional guided walk of one of Galveston's recognized districts for those learners who choose to participate.
A second "Discover Historic Galveston" OLLI class from Tuesday, October 18 - December 6 at UTMB Victory Lakes Special Care Center 2240 Gulf Freeway South, in League City.
